How To: Close The Period

Welcome to our guide on how to close or protect the period in GreenSlate. I’ll walk you through each step, so you can complete the process with ease.

1. Open Closed Periods Section

First, navigate to the Closed Periods option in the left-hand menu.

2. Access Periods List

Next, click on the + icon to open the Periods page where you can manage individual accounting periods.

3. Alternate Period Closure Button

Or you can select the Close Period button.

4. Choose Period End Date

Use the Set Period End Date field to select the date you'd like to close the period. Please note: the end date cannot be past the current date.

5. Confirm Period Closure

When you're ready, click the Close Period button to finalize the selection and proceed with closing the period.

6. Finalize Closure Confirmation

You will be prompted as to whether unposted transactions should be posted in the current period or moved to the new period. Click the Confirm button to complete the period closing process and update the records accordingly. Once you close the period, period-end reports are available from the Closed Periods module.

7. Protect Period Details

If you'd rather protect the period, go back to the Closed Periods module and click the Close Period button within the Periods section to begin the process of protecting a specific period.

8. Access Period Details

Then, use the Set Period End Date field to choose the accounting period you want to protect.

9. Activate Protect Period Feature

Click the Protect Period button to secure the selected period.

10. Review Disclaimer

Lastly, review the disclaimer and click Confirm, once ready.

Note: When you protect a period, users will be warned when posting transactions or committing POs within the protected range. The system will not prevent the user from posting transactions or committing POs within the protected range.

Protected periods may be closed at a later date by following the instructions at the beginning of this article.
